Fascination of Plants Day

 
On Friday May 18th the first international Fascination of Plants Day takes place in Estonia, and a range of exciting events are arranged in Tartu and Tallinn. On Raekoja square in Tartu workshops, 3D simulations of the effect of plants on the city, exhibitions and video shows that demonstrate the colourful inner world of plants are open to visitors. In Tallinn an exhibition opens on the II floor of the Viru Centre, and there are workshops for children in the Miia-Milla-Manda museum during the day. 
 
On May 19 at 21.30 the film „Vaimustavad taimed“ („Amazing Plants“) is shown at the Estonian National Museum (Eesti Rahva Muuseumi) in the Exhibition house, Kuperjanovi 9, Tartu. Estonian texts, admission free.
 
On May 19 and 20 a show of the Fascination of Plants posters and photos is open in the Botanical Gardens of the University of Tartu.
 
 
The international Fascination of Plants Day on May 18 event was launched by the European Plant Science Organisation, with the role of plants in environmental conservation as key message.

The Fascination of Plants Day, in the framework of the Year of Research 2012, is arranged by the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Eesti maaülikool) and the Centre of Excellence ENVIRON (Teaduse tippkeskus ENVIRON) in cooperation with research groups of the University of Tartu and the Tallinn University of Technology, the Frontiers in Biodiversity Research (FIBIR) Centre of Excellence at the University of Tartu and the Jõgeva Plant Breeding Institute.
