A reminder that Friday August 10th is the last chance to register for the bird race Estonian Open 2012.

According to the rules participants are not allowed to move on the competition grounds for one week before the rally, so Friday is also the last day for preparations on site.

For information: 16 teams have registered for the rally (6 from Estonia, 9 from Finland, 1 from Latvia), altogether 67 participants as of now. Only once before there have been more teams (17 teams in the Harjumaa rally in 2009), but teams were smaller then and the total number of participants smaller. So this year shows a record number of participants, and all star actors are present (all winners of previous rallies). It will be a rough and tough fight.

Please sign up for the race before 10th of August through
margus.ots@gmail.com or call  +372 50 82244 (Margus Ots).

Finnish teams can sign up through Risto Lammin-Soila (Viron Lintuseura):
risto.lammin-soila@pp.inet.fi, +358 40 700 4784.
NB! Teams are officially signed up only after paying the participation fee.

NB! Change in the race rules!
As one of the winning teams last year has not reported a Rarities Committee species observation to the RC, last year’s scores have been adjusted as a consequence. So, the Estonian Open 2011 winner is Team RC & Pets with 119 species and Team Ristisaari holds second place with 118 species. To avoid similar uncomfortable situations we expect teams to fill out and send the necessary documentation of encountered rarities within 7 days after the race. Otherwise these Rarities Committee species will be deleted from the list.

NB! Local rarities in Saaremaa.
Several species which are common on the mainland are extremely rare on the islands. We handle the following species as equal to Rarities Committee species and they have to be well seen (no heard-only observations)  or documented to avoid speculations afterwards: TETBON (hazel grouse), TETURO (capercaillie), STRURA (Ural owl), DENLEU (white-backed woodpecker), DENMED (middle spotted woodpecker), PICTRI (three-toed woodpecker), PICCAN (grey-headed woodpecker), PARCRI (crested tit), SITEUR (nuthatch). So keep cameras and recording equipment at hand!
