Pike

 

 

Every autumn comes a time when pikes are in reedy seashores; trolling fishermen have nice catches then. There is no difference between air and water temperature – both 9 degrees – and neither is there cause to complain of the water level. Naturally the every-autumn foraging invasion comes locally at slightly different times.

 

The colour as well as pattern of pikes is extremely variable. Head and back – blackish green. Sides – grey with a yellow tinge to olive green. Throat and belly – yellowish white to greyish.

 

Females reach significantly larger sizes and their life expectancy is longer.

 

Of course the taste of a well-fed autumn pike is the best in the year.
