Frost flowers growing somewhere

Frost bloom on window

Just as dust grains are needed in a snow cloud for the formation of snowflakes, so do the frost flowers between the window panes need some kind of dust particles to form; something is needed to attach them to the smooth window glass. So older, less airtight windows become painted with frost flowers because dust as well as moisture slips in between them more easily. The latter condenses or sublimes on to the tiny dirt particles, and the frost flowers start growing.
