The Estonian Ornithological Society (EOÜ) invites bird friends to observe nesting birds in their own area and to take part in a long-term people’s science project ”Summer garden bird diary”. The goal is to collect data with the aid of bird enthusiasts and complete our knowledge of breeding bird species in our gardens. Although we meet garden birds almost daily we actually know relatively little about the welfare of the most common birds. With the aid of the ”Summer garden bird diary” we can follow the annual changes in the distribution and breeding success of tens of garden birds, and if needed act on changes.

Keeping the garden bird diary is simple, and within everyone’s reach. With the web application created for this everyone can create their own personal garden bird diary where all the birds observed and nesting in the garden but also other animals can be noted. All data entered into the diary as well as comments can either be saved  or printed out as a diary by the observer. It is also possible in the map application to monitor the statistics from other gardens taking part in the project, and also the arrival of the better-known migrant birds to Estonia. The web site also provides guidelines for creating a bird-friendly garden; an identification guide can also be used.

The summer garden bird diary is on the web site
