Amanda’s blue

Amanda's blue        Harilik taevastiib         Polyommatus amandus

The Amanda’s blue occurs most often in open landscapes,  in humid as well as drier environments. There are a couple of weeks left of the flight period of the imagos (as of July 22).

The wingspan of both sexes stays at three centimetres or a little more, but externally they are quite different. The upper wings of the males are a lustrous blue, wing edges dark brown and similarly-coloured wing veins near the edge. The upper wing surface of females brown, accentuated by orange wing patches on the hind wings (some individuals also have them on the forewings). Note the white wing fringes.

Wing undersides pale and with a dot pattern – orange as well as black - in the heel part of the hind wing;  they may be two, but some few individuals can have four.
