Not only the plumage is black, so are the feet, the beak and likewise the eyes. A blacker bird there cannot be – ‚raven black’.
In myths and tales the raven is linked with witches and such folks, but it has never been connected with evil, the raven was always held to be a wise bird, whose advice should be listened to.
