Ringed or grey?

At Toompuiestee 24, in the RMK headquarters, last year’s seal exhibition is open. It will stay open for visitors until the end of March, and it can be visited on workdays until 5 pm, free of charge for all.

Our seals were photographed by Kaido Haagen and Jõepera; they were on the expeditions together with seal investigators, brothers Ivar and Mart Jüssi.

A new ”Nature photo gallery” is shaping up in the handsome atrium of RMK. Until now there hasn’t been one in Tallinn, and visitors have been pleasantly surprised. A start was made in autumn last year with the „Vereta Jaht – Bloodless Hunt“ exhibition which was followed by the ”wolf Year” photos. The coming year already seems to be booked up with exhibition events

Poster legend:

Exhibition ”Two men, two seals”

The exhibition, dedicated to the ringed seal, last year’s animal of the year, grew from the photos of friends Kaido Haagen and Jarek Jõearu. Many of them are taken on expeditions with seal investigators. Since both seal species are  protected we see big Greys as well as little Blackies in the photos. The differences between the seemingly similar creatures become clearer in this exhibition: in the photos we see the ring pattern of the ringed seals and their favourite places - stones for lounging, and the mottled fur of gray seals and their favourite places on the seashore. If one of the seals were to stick up its head out of the water beside your boat – would you be able to tell which it is?
