New Camera

This year the Winter White-tailed Eagle Feeding Ground Camera starts a little later than in previous years. The camera was installed on December 8, with the assistance of Tiit and Joosep, but we only managed to get the sound in working order in the new year, with the help of Beta Group.

The greenfinch is another passerine to be seen in daytime on Pig-TV. Somewhat larger than sparrows and yellowhammers, with a dumpier body build and a shorter, forked tail, fast and skilful flyers. Slower feeders than others, stay quite long in one spot. Seed-eaters in wintertime, and happy to visit birds’ feeding-stations, and there they often behave quite differently. Next week the Birds’ Winter Camera of Loodusmees will at last be working, there they can be watched more closely.

Brightly yellow edging on wing primaries; male birds are clearly greenish, female birds more dully green-grey, as are the juveniles, who also have a slightly streaked breast.

Winter numbers may be about fifty thousand.
