New Camera

This year the Winter White-tailed Eagle Feeding Ground Camera starts a little later than in previous years. The camera was installed on December 8, with the assistance of Tiit and Joosep, but we only managed to get the sound in working order in the new year, with the help of Beta Group.

Bird feeder visitor - Greenfinch

  Greenfinch Carduelis chloris

Greenfinches seem dumpy. The bill is suited for seed-eating – strong, conical, and sharp.

The male bird is greenish, the female greenish-grey, with brown-streaked back. Wing edgings are yellow, the feet pink. While tits grab a seed and fly away to eat it, greenfinches eat their meal at the feeder as if visiting a café. They are sometimes a bit peevish and quarrelsome towards other birds.
Wintering greenfinches grow more numerous by each year, the population may be estimated at 50 000 individuals.

They are often confused with siskins, but Arne’s photo is good for comparing the two.
