Mid-stream mushroom.
In the primeval forest at Poruni River we found a mushroom growing in the middle of a small creek. There was a strong flow of water but the mushroom had still managed to push its fruiting body up through the rippling water. The creek is probably so powerful only during rains and high waters, and in drier periods the fruiting body would stretch up from the mycelium threads to the ordinary needle-littered surface. It was a specimen belonging to the milk cap mushroom group, precisely which isn’t possible to say, because we hadn’t the heart to pull this plucky little mushroom up.
