New Camera

This year the Winter White-tailed Eagle Feeding Ground Camera starts a little later than in previous years. The camera was installed on December 8, with the assistance of Tiit and Joosep, but we only managed to get the sound in working order in the new year, with the help of Beta Group.

Otters in winter

Out fishing! Otters moving from the den to the river.

In winter we can see otters – one of our largest water-living predators – even in daytime, and this can be a really amusing pastime. But it must be possible to watch without being noticed. The females now live together with last year’s young. From the resting den, or holt, at the river the otters slide down the banks in the fluffy snow. If there is no open water in the stream, there will be holes in the ice for entering the water. After the hunt the otters roll around in the snow to get their fur dry. Otters know how to enjoy the winter!

For food they hunt fish, also frogs hibernating in the bottom mud.
Now in winter otters and beavers can’t be mistaken for each other: the beavers spend the winter in their dens, or lodges
