Ilmi and Erast Parmasto in Rõuge, at the sulphur shelf white willow, in the 2009 Mushroom Week
The IIIrd Rõuge Mushroom Week is about to begin. The mushroom harvest of the previous two years has been impressive. There are 282 species in the current list, all collected from the Rõuge, Paganamaa and Pähni forests. Surely this year will add more species. This year’s mushroom gurus are Vello Liiv, Teele Jairus and Veiko Kastanje, and the Mushroom Week will be dedicated to our beloved Mall Vaasma, who left us last year. Professor Erast Parmasto will speak of her life work in his opening speech at the mushroom exhibition.
Last year’s programme brought culinary mushroom experiences as an addition; the instigator was tireless picker Vladislav Korźets. This year legendary head chef of restaurant Gloria and initiator of the Culinary Institute of Estonia, Dimitri Demjanov, takes part in preparing the mushroom dishes. Besides cooking mushrooms he will talk, not only of the frying of mushrooms but also about Estonian cooking in general and locally produced food.
Musical fare will be provided by the rarely heard duo, Jaak Tuksam and Jaanus Nõgisto. Not many are likely to have listened to or seen this constellation on stage earlier.
