New Camera

This year the Winter White-tailed Eagle Feeding Ground Camera starts a little later than in previous years. The camera was installed on December 8, with the assistance of Tiit and Joosep, but we only managed to get the sound in working order in the new year, with the help of Beta Group.

Tormi visited the nest for a few hours on Monday afternoon and was fed by the parents. Obviously Tormi is good at finding his way in the home forest. In the evening the whole family was on the nest – Tormi and adults Tuuli and Remo.

Young lesser spotted eagle Tormi was fed several times by parents Tuuli and Renno on Sunday.

In the evening nestling life came to an end  and Tormi started a real eagle life.

„Soon I will be one month old ...“

Time flies. Tormi, the only offspring of lesser spotted eagles Tuuli and Remo, celebrates another birthday. Proper feathers develop, eating on one's own and standing up work well. Tormi knows too that it isn’t as hot in the shadow as in the sun. Life is beautiful. One more month, and in the beginning of August Tormi should fledge.

At the birthday party: “Mama“ Tuuli and Tormi. Daddy Remo will be coming soon from a hunting expedition.

A beautiful summer day for celebrating.
Food is no problem, the drought is over and amphibians are on the move. In a “mouse year“ there is no lack of rodents either, they too move outside the protecting wet grass.
Around mid-July Tormi will get pretty foot rings.

In Tuuli and Remo’s nest the offspring of the lesser spotted eagles has become one week old. The second egg remains unhatched in the nest, and so the natural selection has been made already at the egg stage. As mentioned earlier the parents usually raise only one – the stronger – chick.

Tormi, as the LK Forum people call the lesser spotted eagle chick, has grown and developed nicely during the week. As the drought advanced frogs decreased on the menu of the birds and rodents were added. During the last few...

Technology has sadly failed by turns  at the different nest cameras this year. Urmas managed to replace the control unit in completely calm weather; he had to operate extremely silently. Tuuli stayed in the nest, undisturbed.

The hatched little LSE-to-be is three days old tonight.

The first LSE chick was hatched in Tuuli and Remo's nest at last

The lesser spotted eagle pair that has occupied the black stork nest had their first chick hatched on Friday night. The first egg was laid on April 27, and the female as a rule at once begins brooding. Thus the chicks also hatch at different times. The incubation period is estimated to be 37-41 days. Here it took 45 days. Slowly but steadily?

The weather was good during the incubation, with three heat waves ... The delay did stir up worries.

Things happen in Tuuli and Remo's nest ....

The lesser spotted eagle pair that has occupied the black stork nest is hatching its first chick. The first egg was laid on April 27 and the female started brooding at once: the chicks will thus be hatched at different times; the incubation period is 37-41 days. As we all can calculate all the days were used up.

Generally only one chick will fledge, very rarely both. The breeding success of lesser spotted eagles is characterised by a 3-year cycle, and that is mainly governed...

The black stork nest is occupied by a lesser spotted eagle pair. The pair checked the site out already last year. The nest base is of course large and needed the construction of a new, smaller one. We will see how it will work out. Black Stork came  to see the occupied nest site yesterday. There is a shortage of female black storks.
