A nice little report on the doings of Miina, member of the ELF flying squirrel project team. Link http://www.looduskalender.ee/node/2205 is to the Looduskalender notice, with photos of Miina. Translation here below. Hope we will hear more about Miina!
Jo – I really didn’t know where to put it, feel free to move it around! "Other animals” seemed most reasonable.

(Text: Uudo Timmel & Kadri Rennel, ELF)
"Christmas is a quite peaceful time for the Flying Squirrels. They do not hibernate, even in winter they make regular trips outside for feeding and other activities. The recent storm did not only do harm to humans but also sent some flying squirrels out househunting, when their nest trees were brought down.
Our flying squirrel Mina, equipped with a transmitter, did not fare so badly. Her nest tree did break at 10 meters, but luckily the nest hollow is in the remaining stump and Miina can still use it for some time. But in time she too will have to find a new nesting place. It will not be altogether easy because there are few suitable tree hollows left in the very production-oriented forests, and there may be a long way to the next suitable living place and with obstacles, like clear-felled and rejuvenation areas in between that have to be crossed somehow.”
Liis
PS. ELF, the Estonian Fund for Nature, (Eesti Looduse Fond) has put out an appeal for funds for their flying squirrel project (the larger part of the text in Looduskalender). Some more in English about the project, http://www.elfond.ee/eng/projects/fores ... g_squirrel.

Liis - you are right. We need another topic for these stories. Links is about links. Photograph stories, corvids, health, none of them covers what Liis has just posted!
Now we need a topic title for these other topics. What shall we call it? How about Other animals and birds?
I will wait an hour and hope that someone will feel inspired by another good new title!!

If it is to cover the activities of the various club members on the ground - could we call it
Ground Force?

Or Reports from the ground!!

Have you been watching TV, Pat? :rotf:

It is for members to use, but need not be about members.
I suppose it is for things not covered elsewhere, in other topics.. - - - a sort of general purpose topic which is nature-related.

Martin, bociany, renandeli, thanks for the welcome.
In addition to the link that indicated to the camera's griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) - http://static.publico.clix.pt/grifosnaWeb/default.aspx - can, too, see them in WMP at: http://wms.fccn.pt/grifos-rodao.
If you are lucky, you can see a rare (in Europe) Rüppell's Vulture (Gyps rueppellii), a African bird of prey, who lives in Portas de Ródão, for at least four years.
I hope you understand ...

There are some wonderful pics of a pair of Bald Eagles in Vancouver, Canada. Photographs taken by people who live locally and visit the area -they often take salmon or other fish for the eagles.
Just for the pics -

I had not noticed that page yet!
Here, in the web-cam Tigrar-Live 24h there is page where there are photographs of Siberian Tigers playing with a web-cam! They broke it, but it was funny play, and nothing bad happened for the tigers..) here: Unika bilder!
Tigrar tycker om webbkameror..
.
= Unique photos! Tigers like webcams

In this page are all animal-web cams, also the Store Mosse Eagle-feeding cam:

a photograph of the Tigers (people try to save the Siberian Tiger, Tigers in 'Zoo' is a part of that work..)
