 ... female KGY attacking her chick, leaving it with injuries it could not recover from. ... “We cannot say exactly why this sad event occurred. Up until now the chick had been doing well with both parent birds showing normal chick-raising behaviour. KGY also has a good record of producing healthy chicks over the years making this behaviour even more unexpected and upsetting for our rangers."

Liz, TY also for nice vids about albatros

Department of Conservation Mod
Hi everyone, thank you for your continued support. We have complied a list of FAQ's and answers.

Q: Was the chick ill?
A: As far as we know there was nothing wrong with the chick. It was putting on weight as normal and displaying normal behaviours. From what our ranger saw beforehand on Sunday there was nothing to indicate it was ill.

Q: What will happen to KGY and YWK?
A: KGY has already abandoned the empty nest and when YWK returns he won’t stick around for too long when he notices the nest is empty. Because the chick was still quite young, it is possible that this pair will return next year to attempt to breed again.

Q: Was the chick blinded?
A: We are unable to determine if the chick had impaired eyesight.

Q: Will the camera be moved to another nest?
A: We’re considering the feasibility of moving the camera to another nest if the disturbance can be kept to a minimum.

Golden Eagle cam, Oregon
http://www.goldeneaglecam.com/
Image
"Located several miles east of Sisters, Oregon on the Whychus Creek Canyon, this Eagle Cam was the brainchild of Janet Zuelke and Forrest Babcock, who, at the time, owned the property across the canyon from the nest. They built a gazebo to house the equipment, and engineered the optical system that is able to capture images from 1200 or so feet across the canyon, and beam them out to the internet.
The land that the nest is on is owned by the Deschutes Land Trust and is managed as a wildlife preserve called Aspen Hollow Preserve. East Cascades Audubon Society funds the eagle cam with operation and maintenance provided by volunteers Jim Hammond (optics), Leslie Lawrence (website, and current owner of camera site), and Anthony Kay (technical support)."

"EUROPEAN BROWN BEAR CAM Here is our new livestream from Romania, the Harghita Mountains – one of the last refuge of large carnivores of Europe. This is the domain of Eurasian lynx, the Eurasian wolf and the European brown bear. By setting up this camera we want to bring this often mistreated and misunerstood animals closer to the general public. For the harsh winter season we will set up a feeder which will keep the carnivores away from human settlements and prevent potential loss to the livestock of local farmers. The feeder will also help our viewers to catch a glimpse of these amazing creatures. The broadcast was established with the technical support of Ustream.com by Filmjungle Society on the „Nagyküküllő” Hunting- Angling associations game unit."
