Oh, Macdoum, thank you for the link to the baby panda's examination. It looks so sweet & sleepy!

I have been watching the Spanish boars at the Mangolink cam tonight. About 23.00pm Spanish time: The herd of youngsters (who seem now on thier own) arrived, & they were hungry & thirsty.

They continued to eat & drink their fill.

A Giant Panda cub was born on 17th Sept 2012 at National Zoo Washington to panda mother MeiXiang (after a five year wait)

But I got this news today via their newsletter.
September 23, 2012
Dear Macdoum,

We are brokenhearted to share that we have lost our little giant panda cub. Panda keepers and volunteers heard Mei Xiang make a distress vocalization at 9:17 a.m. and let the veterinarian staff know immediately. They turned off the panda cam and were able to safely retrieve the cub for an evaluation at 10:22 a.m., which we only do in situations of gravest concern. The veterinarians immediately performed CPR and other life-saving measures, but sadly the cub was unresponsive. We’ll have more updates as we learn more, but right now we know is that the cub weighed just under 100 grams and that there was no outward sign of trauma or infection. We’ll share information with you as we learn more.

Its so terribly sad.

It was such sad news about the little panda's death at the Nationla Zoo in Washington, DC. That makes the San Diego Zoo's new little baby boy even more precious! He is such a cutie, too!

It has been raining for several hours, since I began watching / working at computer. Nice to hear it raining. The fox came through the rain to get a nibble of food just a few minutes ago.

 Neighborhood dogs are running together this night! No wonder there have been no boars! The dogs are having a party with all the food . . .

Edit-- At least 4 dogs, & they have hearty appetites.

Sept 29th--

The rain continues in Spain. It does not deter the boars, though.

The rain is very heavy, now. There are still some boars there, a group different from the earlier herd-- this one has some small half-grown piglets in it. I read about some flooding in Spain. With this kind of rain I can believe it!

The slender, lovely vixen is there right now, eating & having a nice drink of water. She almost always comes at sundown twilight.

Now, ten minutes later, I hear a man calling nearby & also what SOUNDS like the huffing of a boar close to the cam's microphone. But I do not see anything come into view. Yet, I hear cracking branches & snorting, so boars must be near.

--Yes, here they come for supper! Smack-smack-smack!!
