They have been reunited -- it sounds like the people picked up Hope in a carrier and delivered her to Lily.

Not exactly a nature cam. But weather-related. After a breathing space of several days and with a change in wind direction, the smoke haze is back.

The fires were in the Swedish news today.
Is it mainly forest burning, or are there peat ground fires?

Fires in peat are very hard to put out, I believe.
Stockholm has had its rain now, but it was the driest and hottest spell for many decades. And in that record dry spell people happily traipsed off with loads of the "use-once" grills. In the city parks and green areas mainly the thrash bins burned, though.

Official figures from the beginning of what is called the fire hazard period (don't know what it means exactly, seems to vary depending on the year) through July 31 are 22503 forest fires including 792 peat fires, overall. Around here (Moscow Region), there were 1704 forest fires including 605 peat fires in the same period.
On August 1, there were 774 forest fires including 74 peat fires all in all compared to 63 forest fires and 67 peat fires in the Moscow Region.
Most peat fires are east and southeast of the city.

While in the car I heard something like after a brief respite Russia ... but then I did not hear the rest. But I knew it was bad.

I do not think we have too many fires just at present, but the town I visited for a quilt show a couple weeks ago is a bit closer to an uncontrolled fire than anyone would like. I think most of our fires are out in rural areas on the other side of the mountains so the populated part of the state does not get smoked out. But I have relatives who live on a farm on the dry side of the state and sometimes people's health there is damaged. The smoke is just terrible for people's health.
