Intruders flying around the nest. Linda and Sulev are together and making a lot of noise.
13.43 Sulev flew off and was heard calling not far away.
I saw two big birds flying around - maybe eagles but don't know.

maybe there was just one stranger? Linda came home from the left and the first stranger flew from the right and made a curve to follow her. then Linda landed on the nest and she and Sulev called wildly... after a few seconds there was this other fly-by by an strange eagle. i think it could have been the same stranger.

i made a slowmotion video of the strange eagle's visit. here's first the normal speed.

and this is 1/3 of normal speed.

this is now long enough so the two eagles flying one after the other can be seen in the end.

aha, ok. i haven't watched that yet.
to me it seemed that the first stranger who flew closest to the nest had a dark tail. Linda's white tail shone bright white from a longer distance. so the first stranger was a young eagle.

- i'll make a longer slowmotion video. i stopped too early.

one more video. here Sulev has gone and calls from nearby. Linda is layind down on the eggs after rolling them (two :innocent: ). at the same time one more eagle flies over the nest but this could be Sulev because Linda doesn't seem to be worried anymore.

yes!
i stopped too early to see the two of them on the first recording. the live situation was way too fast for me to see the last eagles at all.

edit: the last two birds in the end might have been crows, too. i heard some crow's voices there as well... :puzzled:

It was very interesting to see that neither Sulev nor Linda mantled the eggs .... usually they do that when in intruder comes so near to the eggs .... perhaps they knew that the two eagles were no real threat for their nest and they only wanted to demonstrate by calling loud together that is here all their territory ... ???

I don't know anything about birds, but Linda&Sulev and Klaara&Klaus are so fascinating.
Just waiting for the kids :).

Our pair seemed quite upset during visit of intruder.

May I ask if there was a real threat? Are eagles attacking each other?

hello IREN and Rava and welcome to the eagles' nest! :hi:
:gathering:

we still have some 9 days left before chicks are expected. on Saturday April 20th it will be 38 days from laying of the first egg.

i don't think that there was any real danger today when two eagles visited Linda and Sulev. they didn't even try to land anywhere near.
in 2009 during previous nesting sometimes a 1st winter eagle visited the nest tree and sat there on a side branch for a long time. Linda kept yelling at the youngster, standing on the side of the nest (she was not mantling). -and in 2009 once an adult intruder went in to the nest itself when Linda was there with her first egg. she just kept calling and whining till the stranger went away. no figthing, just yelling. i suppose it is too dangerous to move in a nest with egg(s).
- even on the feeding ground there wasn't much eagle fighting in the winter.

at least one of today's visitors seemed to be a young eagle. who knows if it (or both) was Linda's and Sulev's eaglet from last summer? they know where their home was and they might come back to see what Mummy and Daddy are doing. :D

Thank you for greeting! Very long hatch and already lose patience. I conducted canaries, so 14 days and nestling. We do not know how many remained eggs from 4, evidently only two. I very experience!
