Re: Buzzard Nest Webcam Discussion - 2012 ESTLAT
Mrs B is back at 10.34!
she flew back so quietly and stood on the back branch for a while so that i was worried for a few seconds that it might be the intruder.
Alice i was thinking how some eagle intruders sometimes (in 2009) came to the nest tree and even on the rim of the nest. all Linda did was that she raised herself a bit. curved her nech and raised the headfeathers and sort of screamed rather silently. but she always kept the eggs well under her belly.
yes the egg was so shining white and just waiting to be picked by some thief.
this will be a long and stressful summer...

When the two adults were there screaming they did seem very protective of the egg -- so they have some sense

yes, they aren't completely useless.
they even managed to get a family started even though we almost lost hope.
now Mrs B is lying on the egg so calmly, as if nothing special never happened.

thanks maertha!
- but it was Pruuni who did the labour!
at 11.39 she began to make calls ooking up around her... after a while Mr Halli B landed on the nest. he stood there fora while and both were quiet. he left at 11.41.
i couldn't see what the calling was about, but not the intruder after all i think...
after that it's been quiet. i think Mrs B is sleeping now.

A short visit. I saw the landing at 12:43, but I was not fast enaugh to record it and could not see if he(?) brought prey. Some loud calls, then he left the nest at 12:44.

At 13:37 another flying visit, this time without noise. There was no prey visible.
Pruuni seems to be very attentive almost all the time. 13:42 she arranged some twigs a bit, 13:44 she called. About 13:58 she changed the breeding position. Everything is fine.
Now I have to go - have a good weekend, everybody!

We have an egg! How wonderful! Hope it's all turning out well, this year for them!

Thank you ame for sticking to this nest though at times it seemed hopeless. Now all your patience has been rewarded.
Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Buzzard.
Have a nice weekend ame, though the nest will be lost without you.

Seems Ame organized it well, the egg in nest takes attention of several observators and she can go for weekend freely...
Actually I was almost sure that here will be no eggs, because it is quite late already for Buzzard to lay (more suitable time for LSE) and in Estonia we are predicting low voles density year now - that means no sense to make efforts to breed very seriously. But of course, some pairs are successful in spite of all that. Hopefully H&P also!
