Pruuni is at home and safely on the egg now.

i noticed quite a few times when the egg has seemingly been unattended that in fact a parent has been in the nest tree but outside the view, quarding the egg. but sometimes there actually has been no-one at home: the first parent has taken clearly off and flown away, and then the other has later flown from far to the nest. i hope those were the first unsettled days. yesterday and today Mrs and Mr B seem to have calmed down to a regular incubation rhythm.

she's sleeping.

thrushes and other birds are singing wildly in the forest so that finally Pruuni woke up to listen to them. a songthrush is loudest & closest. in the beginning of the clip someone was walking under the nest. then there's a bittern blowing in the bottle at least twice and a cow moo'ing and a dog barking... it's like Old McDonald's farm. only the cock is in the barn and sleeping, too.

thanks Lussi, and good night!

Pruuni seems to be very attentive almost all the time. 13:42 she arranged some twigs a bit, 13:44 she called. About 13:58 she changed the breeding position. Everything is fine. :headroll:

Ame,

I`m so thankfull for all you provide in pictures and so nicely formulated comments.
Is it to ask for to much to get a short, if possible description regarding how to produce a picture or video from an observation.

Please, forget it, if it is too elementary or difficult to describe.

Now you see, Me have many worries outside the regular texture.

Welcome to the home of an outsider bird watcher.

Regards to everybody on this wonderful forum.

borje :hi: with what program are you watching the camera? it's handy to use a VLC-player. with that you can take both snapshots and record video. first you'll need to download the VLC-player to your computer.
have a look here: viewtopic.php?p=91369#p91369 and then onwards.
their systems may have changed somewhat since i've written those instructions but i guess it will not be much different. don't hesitate to ask for more help if necessary.

it's been quite dark already for quite some time but the birds and the dogs and the cows will not stop. flocks of geese are flying over.

May 4th
good morning! :hi:

it's so early that Pruuni is just waking up.

and then she tucks her head under her wing and falls back to sleep.
- there's a tawny owl calling. here in the slip there are two calls, one at about 8 s, second at about 23 s and third right in the end.

here's another clip with the tawny owls' voice. here it's at about 6 s, 14 s and 25 s from the beginning (or 1 s later; i've taken advance).

thank you borje and b.h-p.
surely ther must be a lot that goes unnoticed by me and could be added...

Pruuni has tried to wake up more seriously for an hour already. she has called for food several times but every time she has begun to sleep again. i guess she'd like to have breakfast.
her attemps to wake-up haven't been very convincing: she calls kaa-kaa-kaa, tucks her head under the wing and then she calls from under the wing! :rotf: and then back to the slumbers...

Tuuli does a bit of that in the early mornings -- halfhearted requests for breakfast while she is still almost asleep. (I appreciate seeing other creatures having trouble waking up :whistling: )

at 10.07 breakfast arrived in bed for Pruuni: Halli brought a vole.
Imagepicasion.com

Pruuni took it to the forest.
Imagepicasion

Halli lay on the egg. it is gaining freckles, dark spots.

then Halli did a short trip away from the nest but returned soon.
Image

now he is on the egg. -there were also the first cuckoo calls. first it was opening its voice: khukukhukrrh! then it sang twice two proper cuckoo's, too.

Halli took off again at 10.32.

.... at 10.51 the egg is still unattended (truly this time. i think Halli really flew away and there's no-one invisibly in the tree... )

.......... at 11.13 the egg still alone....

it looks like that Halli is in nest duty now. in Pontu pictures both birds have been in hte nest at 16.00, and only one one minute earlier and later, so it seems that they changed incubation turns at 16.00.
http://pontu.eenet.ee/saunja/2012-05-04 ... -16-00.jpg
-now Halli is a good daddy: he is staying in the nest and on the egg.

he looks so much smaller than Pruuni and a lot more blond.

borje: i'm glad if you'll find the instructions useful and up-to-dat enough. :shake:

that irresponsible Halli left again before Pruuni was anywere near the nest.
(probably; we are suffering from a power cut and my mobile is even slower here than in the country! VLC restarts and crashes all the time! :bash: so i didn't see or hear much... :banghead: )
at 17.30 H ins not in the P-picture anymore. Pruuni has arrived at 17.49.

Looks like they are staying an one-egg-family? But with the vole situation bad this year, as Urmas writes, it's maybe better!
