 What strange nests we have this season! But I really hope they make up their mind soon!

great Felis that you were actually watching! i only had the tape rolling... but so i found the elk! :headroll:
it walked out of the picture just before one blackbird landed just byt the camera and began to sing so loud that it caught my attention!

here's the elk. it entered the picture in the middle of the picture in the main fork of the nest tree.

and just after the elk vanishes somewhere in the left the blackbird begins its concert.

i think we have a problem of perspective here maybe... most of these cameras begin to be transmitted when people "behind the camera" are sure there is something going on there. this WTE nest camera has been on the air for ages, since the beginning of March or something and it was not made public for ages again... people who "knew the source" found the link to this camera but it was published on the LK news many weeks later. so i htink we are used to that things are well underway when the transmission begins. look at the osprey camera for instance! :D

this time here is different: the camera has been on for who knows how long... then some "wrong" birds begin to come here... they aren't as active as the BS at their nest just after the arrival of Tiina (they didn't hesitate a minute!  and had their first egg within two nights...)

Mr and Mrs B seem to be an old couple, taking their time. but in fact i'm getting worried about their "laziness": if they will be mating with this frequency (once every 9 days) we'll be waiting for eggs here in August! (who knows which year... )

Goodnight ame  don't give up just yet, tomorrow may bring the hoped-for egg...or the next day... :whistling:

I have read this, its informative about the buzzard but no nesting dates :banghead:

http://www.oiseaux.net/birds/common.buzzard.html
I'll look for more..
edit;
From Madiera Birdwatching;
Breeding
The Buzzard nests high up, in densely vegetated ravines or in tall trees, so that it always has a wide field of view from the nest and can spot any approaching danger. The nesting pair starts building the nest in February and begins incubating the eggs (two or three) in mid-April / May. The young birds are ready to leave the nest three to four months later.
We'll keep the faith then.

When I opened the cam someone was in the nest -- working on the nest.

My first capture

Image

Then later she (?) peered (?) over the edge

Then flew to the limb

some little bird (KBV) came to greet Mrs B at 8.04. she was working in the nest and she looked curiously at the KBV but didn't say anything. a willow warbler?
Image

the KBV is the black blob on the left. :whistling:
Image

the KBV comes to the tree on the left first.

Are you sure?

She is sitting on the nest now, so all I can see is Mrs. B.

here's a clearer picture. i think the time of birth was 8.38.
Image

here's the video. the funny voices i heard were bullfinch-like whistles. the she began to pump her body and whoozzh at the same rhythm. finally she seem to shake herself to finally drop the egg. it is there.
now i go and make a nice pot of coffee to celebrate this!

now the poor darling is lying motionless in the nest.

I have to admit when I looked back -- really the only other white spots I could find were when a buzzard flashed us under the tail -- so even though it is not clearly an egg (as someone maybe Kitty pointed out the nest is very deep), it seems an egg is the only thing it could be.

at 10.13 there began to come meouwing from the forest... Mrs B began to call.. then Mr B landed in the nest and they both called loudly to an another buzzard who was flying somewhere close. Mr B took off on a pursuit

then at 10.16 Mrs B followed.

the egg is alone at home....

there's meouwing far in the forest.... it's coming closer? no....

Edit: before the screaming episode Mr B was in the nest on a short visit already at 10.12. i think the intruder was somewhere there already then.

and here is the defence of the nest at 10.13.

are you thinking of Maisy Daisy?

I was thinking this poor little egg looks awfully exposed.
