at 9.18 i heard meouwing from the other room: a buzzard was in the nest, but it didn't stay long. i think this buzzard's chest/breast was much lighter-coloured than the supposed intruder's breast yesterday.

rigth after it had left a Great tit came to check the nest.

i missed that visit because kotkas tends to shut down when i'm watching tooni at the same time. both collapse when i upload videos! :bash:

the buzzards were here again at least at 11.45 and 11.46
...

and then again at 11.52 and 11.56.

yes, the other is more brownish and the other greyish. the browner seems to have a dark collar with a rather clear limit to the lighter chest. i think the third wheel yesterday didn't have such a clear limit there. the dark longinsh spots streched from under the beak to the breast.
this is from yesterday the supposed third wheel. i think it is another bird.

Thank you all for the compliments

I got more familiar with VLC-Player now - after I had to recognize that the problem of not using it until now was not a technical (what I thought long time) but a biological (me)

ame, it really looks like there was a third bird who visited the nest and made a fight with the actual owners
What a moment when they went overboard

Ame and Bea, I must add my compliments and thanks too. The pictures and videos of the new buzzards and a challenger, and then the jays - wonderful! :headroll:

Do we know what species this is? Buteo buteo?

(Look at this page of pictures I found: http://www.birdphoto.fi/lajikuvat/butbut/ )

yes Nancy, as far as we know they are common buzzards Buteo buteo.

i haven't seen nor heard anyone at the nest since noon when the last one left by 12.05. the weather is so nasty: wind sounds so cold and it has been rather gloomy, dark as in the evening. Silma's weather data says it's +2 degrees (and probabaly going down in the night; at about 3 pm it was +3). tomorrow is expected to be sunny.
the wind is so loud that it would be difficult to hear any birdsongs, but i don't think there have been much of that, not in this weather. :slap:
well, i suppose we should be happy as long there's no snow coming down...

the wind is roaring loudly and the nest is swaying back and forth. however i think i heard an owl of some sort calling at about 18.17 and i tried to make a recording of it. it's not very good i'm afraid...
is it a tawny owl? i think there's at least one whistle at about 5-6 sec from the start, maybe two in a row... :puzzled:

April 15th
good morning!

it's a beautiful morning with a lot of birdsongs and no wind. i opened the cam at 7.31 and then one buzzard was sitting on the back branch. since then it has left and returned a few times. or actually i'm not sure which one! they look too similar. at about 7.45 i think one was sitting on the big branch far right outside the picture and one was digging in the nest bowl, arranging twigs.
7.43:

7.51:
Image

at 7.58 i think both are away... :puzzled:

last nigth the new inhabitants of this nest were announced on LK news. there's also news about a WTE nest camera in Latvia. there had been eagles early in the spring but then they had stopped coming to the nest. so there happened the same thing as here last year. the news also says that Renno has found a new nest in this forest where Linda and Sulev are nesting this year, now! that is so good news!! :headroll:
(i just would like to know if they were nesting there already last year...?? :whistling: )

8.16 ->
one sat on the branch on right for quite a while. i saw its shadow moving... then the second landed on the nest and it began working with the big twig which is lying there in the middle of the nest. it's one of Sulev's logs. it was misplaced during the figth on Friday. now it is bothering the buzzards and they are trying to get it pushed aside or away...
Image

but it seems to be very difficult for such little birds... :whistling:
it seems that they are seriously re-decorating the nest to their liking.

i'll post and add videos later... now i'm recording and making notes....
