Sulev was waiting for Linda already for some time. he called for her...
10:10 Linda flew by the nest. the bright white tail must be a signal in "Eaglesh". it shines so far and bright from such an otherwise camouflaged brid.

at 10:11:02 (5 s later) Linda landed on the nest, seemingly sideways again.
Linda went down to eggs and lay down.

at 10:09 a swan flew by. at least it was big enough for a swan, looked white and had the overall "swan-look": slightly curved long neck and also the tips of the wings looked like swan's wings. and oh boy was it fast. the fly-by took about 1 s and it could be seen only in 4 frames of the video.
gif maker here !
i made a half-speed video of the fly-by but still it goes by fast.

16:24 Sulev landed.
Linda talked just a little and so softly that it was difficult to hear her over that roaring wind. it also seemed like Linda wasn't so keen to leave. she stayed down and Sulev stood by her patiently waiting that she would get up. then at last Linda did and took off at 16:32.
i so wish that the wind will calm at least a little by tomorrow. this schwwhoosching is getting on the nerves.

A question to the experts: During the past days we could sometimes observe no change before darkness. Nevertheless, always Linda sat on the nest in the next morning. How well can eagles see in the darkness, do they also fly at deep night?

i've written some introduction to the WTE nest camera and summaries of Linda's and Sulev's previous nesting seasons in 2009 and 2010. these can be found here:
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=563
i hope that this will provide a compact package of background information to those of you who haven't been following Linda's and Sulev's lives earlier.
please don't hesitate to make further questions.

apparently the eagles can and will sometimes fly in very low-light conditions. we have all observed that here: Linda hasn't always come home when the camera has turned off in the very dark evening, and yet she is found at home in the next morning.
i've also seen in previous years some very early morning changes: Sulev has come home when it is still fairly dark and Linda has left the nest.
also in the winter feeding ground last winter some eagles stayed eating on several evenings till it was very dark in the forest. so eagles can fly when it is fairly/almost dark (but of course they aren't night-owls).
i think it should also be remembered that the camera fools us a little. it's actually not quite as dark there as it seems through the camera's lens. as long as there is some light in the horizon it is not quite dark. i think that we can observe this ourselves if we go out from the well-lit room to the yard with no artificial light (this isn't easily possible in the city of course, but in the countryside). after a few seconds the eyes adapt to the lower light level and we begin to see much better.
