:peek: I didn`t saw but they take care about something in deep of the nest. I was watching, they don`t step in the middle of their nest. I think that there IS something...one or two... :puzzled:

I think that on these pictures, on the second pic, the eagles are looking on the bottom of the nest. On the third pic the eagle could be covering the egg or turning it (them!) around.

And here too, on the thrid pic, the head of the eagle is doubtful deep in the bottom of the nest. What's there? Is it counting them? :puzzled:

I am not entirely convinced that there is an egg in this nest yet, and the eagle may just be keeping things fresh down at the bottom of the nest cup.

But when there are eggs there, the eagles will roll or turn them periodically to keep the embryo well positioned (and keep it from sticking to one side of the egg). I have seen (on web cams, of course) bald eagles do this a lot when incubating eggs. Other forums keep track of incubating eagles by recording "egg turning frequency."

Later after the chicks have hatched, they seem to dig down in the bottom of the bowl. One theory is that they are aerating the bottom of the nest - turning the twigs and moss and grass over to keep it fresh.

This talk of egg turning frequency reminds me of my crofter friend who has an incubator in her house, for hens' eggs. Recently she had 16 eggs and only 12 managed a live hatch. She didn't know why three were not successful, but she saw that, in one egg, the chick was upside down, so it was not able to keep its head in the air sac. She has been doing egg incubating for a long time, but she didn't know why this one was misplaced.
Seeing eagles turning their eggs tells us that a real bird knows better than a mechanical incubator!
