White-tailed eagle pair is building the nest, bringing new branches and dead grass for warmth of eggs. Laying eggs will probably happen when the weather is getting better - as we can see today it is snowing although it is +1 C. Forecast is better for second half of the week.

Earliest brood which is known here in Estonia was layd at the beginning of March and in 1990-ties in western coast the average laying of first egg was 19th of March (unpublished data of Veljo Volke, NGO Eagle Club Estonia).

Nest locates at the western coast of Estonia, about 2km from the Baltic Sea. Nest was found in spring 2007 but it was build at least 2005 or even earlier. Both last years - 2007 and 2008 - the pair raised two youngs. In 2007 both nestlings were ringed and one of them we saw at the winter feeding grounds 1.02.2009! Female is also ringed in 1998 but we do not know yet the origin of the bird. Male is without rings and therefore we all can disdinguish the gender of birds

Nest is on the aspen tree (Populus tremula). here is picture taken by Aivar Veide.

Hello!
I'm new on this site and read it every day. I hope this eagle nest is the right one to look after. The white-tailed eagles usually have several nests. 1 of them is for eggs and "babys", the others are places for rest and eat. They may move from one nest to oneother every year for the next generation of eagles.

Hi

I recorded this curious behaviour of female eagle. Isn’t the “intruder” her male? ... but for some reasons she doesn’t let him come closer to the nest ... maybe she really laid egg(s) ??? But why she behaves so surprisingly? When observing the American Bald Eagles (close cousins of our eagles) I saw that they share their incubation duty and give each other the breaks so the other can feed. :puzzled:
