Kotkaklubi:

Spring is developing well and soon will arrive huge number of birds form south. One part of these will stop and breed near to our sea eagle nest. Here is good opportunity to meet them and learn the bird voices. In March we hear not too many species, but in April there will sing many different in one time. If we begin now, we can dive slowly into process and we'll ready for difficulties in separating different voices and determine the species...
If you have possibilities to save the voices for other people, then could arise discussion about. Don't know, how it is possible technically, but at least Youtube is a solution! We save in EENet all the stream and in urgent need we can ask other Urmas from EENet to make needed video clip, but as he does it beside of everyday work, we should not overload him.
Main goal is to learn the bird voices. And if you recognize these through webcam, you surely recognize the birds in nature!
I'm not sure if some specialist could help a lot, as this time is for them very busy in field. But time after time we try to look over your posts. The list of species and dates of singing (beginning-ending) will be good solution and gives possibility to compare (for example with next year or with other nests). These data are very useful for Estonian Ornithological Society as confirmed phonological observations...

Beginner in determining of voices every spring (during last 30 years)...

That seems like a call to Internet friends to learn more recording techniques! :puzzled:

Now we must work out how to record sounds, and post them to Youtube (or similar)
Who is going to be our tutor, please?

I think it's a great idea, Urmas. Let's see what LKF can deliver.

I did a search for How to Record Sounds.
This is just one of the results, which I haven't studied yet.

If anyone has a better tutorial, please tell us.
What programs do you use?

7:17 a dog walking in forest (from left to the nest tree, look at Juta's and Mutikluti's 8:38 am post in viewtopic.php?f=18&t=79&p=27360#p27360), just after Linda came to nest with twig and Sulev left nest.

7:21 a flock of Great Tits (Parus major) are inspecting a nest

(afterwards try to add a video, maybe tomorrow)

Probably it was Buzzard, but Jay could imitate buzzards voice very well...
Linda behaved like a raptor flew over the nest, so we can confirm Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo).

but maybe you are right!
interesting was that Sulev stayed silent only his body language showed he was alert!
Linda did the speaking and arguing :D

If I saw the same situation, there was crows voice - quite close, but bird not visible.
Sulev was like ready to attack intruder, but decided to be patient (probably not easy place to reach the smaller bird in thick-branched place).

Regarding sound recording, I have no sofisticated audio card and for watching cameras I use simply WMP.
This is the way I use to record up to 1 minute of sound: Go to Start Menu - Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound recorder - and then just pres red button.
After you have recorded the sound you need to save it so that it does not get overwritten by the next sound you record.

(I hope I got category names in English right, I have system in Czech at home)

Verlit, thank you.
I have just followed your intructions - they were exactly right. I recorded one minute of mostly silence and occasional wind noise. I didn't save it!

Post 17 March in the nest forum
Crane 6.50, 7.07, 7.30 (camera time)

" ...cranes (sookurg?) early in the morning? Clearly at about 6.50 & 7.07 & 7.30 camera time, more far away (or other birds?) around 7 too."
(The strong sound from one bird, far-away seemed a flock)

19:11 some animal run in the bushes behind the nest, just after Linda came and took the place on eggs. Probably roe deer, but not sure - it was quite dark already.
