19:22:57 Kaia is back!

Image

She brings and gives them some water.
(I don't get as good pictures of it as Anne and Swenja did today)

Kaia seems to be pleased (the chicks drank a bit).

Image

The storklets eat something now too (some food leftovers?)

The chicks poke around in the damp. I don't think there was any food with the water.

Kaia is done. She did a lot for the chicks today in the heat.

This heat wave is somewhat worrying. So far there was enough food available. But now comes a difficult phase.
I hope that in the next 2 days there will be at least some local thunderstorms and some rain in Estonia.
No rain at all would be the worst.

Heloise

I have noticed in the past that this is Kaia's tactic to avoid begging and excitement of her storklets.

Thanks for all pictures and for the weather report.

It’s going to be tough, I think. Too hot for too long. :slap:
Karl II and Kaia will have to pull out all the stops to get over this long heat wave.

20:58 Feeding time! Very hungry kids are eating Karl II´s beak.

Image

There were two (little?) piles of fishes...

Image

... maybe not too much, but they ate.

 Yes, they look satisfied.
They finally have a reasonably filled crop today. :2thumbsup:

If Karl II and Kaia can maintain this difficult 'balance' during the coming week, everything will be fine, I think.
The chicks will not get fat, and may grow a bit slower for a while. But the most important thing at the moment is that they don't dehydrate and don’t get overheated (and in the meantime get enough food every day to avoid deficiencies and starvation).

Karl II and Kaia are both doing such a great job!

Swenja
Perhaps the skin on their legs peels every now and then, like their beaks peel ? :puzzled:
I really don’t know if it’s the case.

At least we saw that the chicks were given dinner.
I don't think any of the parents will come back.
They need to rest themselves!

Thank you @ Tatiana60, @ Anne7 and @Heloise for the nice pictures and reports.

Today 5 feedings could be observed (without snack from Kaia and questionable feeding from Karl II). Kaia was in the nest most of the time and helped the chicks through the heat. Both parents brought plenty of water and refreshments to the nest.

Good night
