It seems that we shall have a serious nesting season with these Black Storks.
I think we should start a Daily Summary topic, so that we can collect important informationat the end of the season.
We can leave it open so anyone can add significant events. when they happen.
Maybe we should post times when adults "change shift", now that they have started to brood.
Are we now confident that we can identify male and female? I am not, yet!

Yes, I like that very much Jo, but don't recognise male and female yet. I shall try to find more information.
Edit: well I've taken pictures from both from all sides and as soon I see them mating I will know which is which

Good Morning,
It will take a while to get whom is whom but I was watching a few minutes ago as (I believe it was Tiit) brought in what looked like black moss(?) and ever so gently placed it around the eggs as Tiina watched.

Now Tiit is in the nest and Tiina is standing behind the trunk. I know it only because saw them mating some moments ago (I guess the male goes on the top of the female???). I've been watching them carefully, but still can't tell any differences between them. How on Earth will we know who is who?

With most birds the female is larger, but here I think the male is larger (not sure) and one of the two has a few white feathers, on each side of the body and I think that is the female, but there must be more.....
Edit: right now is the female on the eggs, I think

Here I think the female is at the left, a few white feathers (at her other side a smaller white patch) and her beak is darker in the middle part, while the male has a complete orange beak. But don't punish me if I'm wrong

Look, have you noticed that Tiina has like a small tassel ( is plume a better word??) on the top of her haed.
This is pic from fireblade1:
I have tried to take pics where the tassel can be seen well, but didin't have better succes yet. Perhaps Tiina just puts the tassel feather to be seen more easily?? I think anyway that in these photos Tiina is the one who has the 'tassel' ...or
---
Tiina to the right:
Tiina is walking to jump on the branch:
Tiina brooding:
If I am wrong, please, correct!!
