Have to get up quite early tomorrow for shopping, so it's good night now

Bociany, do you know if this tuft or crest is associated with gender? I don't recall seeing it on other black storks.

Jo, I think I found the word for the 'form' of the 'head with a tassel'. Last time I saw it on the head of the Portuguese Black stork in last year...
The head form, seems like "tapering" or "tapered" (suippo, takaraivo näyttää suippenevan, kun höyhenet nousevat ylöspäin.. Where is ame!! ), due to the feathers on the back of head when they turn upwards (slow or fast).
Oh, I tried to find a photo I used when I knitted the hat! I have one million pics..

Good night
I wish that everything goes well! The life of Black stork is.. not the easiest. How to say without being too dramatic..
The life of storkaholics is... uncertainty and hope, but anyway it is support for them who do their best in the field for Black storks. It is wonderful to know that there is always some eye watching what is going on there on this Black stork nest...

Jo, perhaps in some species it might be. The red cardinal male usually shows a crest but not the female (that I have seen). I really do not know anything more than that, except that some birds, like the bald eagle, will raise the feathers on their head a bit when they are stressed and otherwise you don't see anything you would call a crest.Jo UK wrote:Bociany, do you know if this tuft or crest is associated with gender? This video shows Tiina (??) on the nest and Tiit bringing in some moss - I just missed recording his landing. He flies off within a minute or so. Tiina stands up and we can see the two eggs.
I love the light and the birdsong!

Kuremari, You was right! It was Tiit on the eggs, because they already mated

Mating a minute ago, you can see the male is making avances
And definitely it is the female who stands in the front now
