Would be useful to take this egg for contaminant analyses, but we can't go before the ringing time probably.
There is many proofs according Latvian colleague analyses, that BS eggs contain again DDT. Hopefully not the eggs of Tiina!

Will they treat the egg like those Portugal storks: not peck or eat it but just ignore?

I wonder if Tiina will roll the egg back into the nest cup again when she returns.

Urmas, in addition to testing for DDT, do you also test for lead? Is that a problem in your area?

Also, is Aspergillosis a problem with Black Storks? The egg shell is porous (also I think broken, if indeed the chick pipped) - bacteria could contaminate it and cause problems (?)

Good evening,
At least one parent deliberately decided to stop brooding the last egg. Quite interesting what the second parent will do!

Best wishes,

Does the DDT "just" appear in BS eggs again or also in the eggs of other birds, Urmas?

20:16 Parent bird is scooping in under the chicks, all around the nestbowl. Is he cleaning up food residue or just moving the chicks a little :puzzled:

Within a few days, when parents stop sitting in the nest and just stay near on the branch the solution will come.
