Urmas said that they have vet-doctor on the ground. First they look if there is possible to do something and bring back the storklet at once, but if not they take it to the clinic and hope to bring back on the nest as quick as possible.

Thank you Juta, for informing us! It's looking like they have taken him for the moment?!

We will see, I guess, it is still light enough to come back once again, even in the wood.

Thank you, katsik!katsik wrote:I write first quickly then later I will correct my english
Urmas say he first time see something like this.
Doctor Madis is also there, first they try look Lenny there, in forest and try treat him.
If not possible and Lenny needs more treatment, they take him to clinic and later back to nest.

Hello everybody,
Using colour rings has greatly improved our knowledge about birds migration. Now we know that BS from Estonia use eastern way to migrate to Africa, while BS from Poland use both – eastern and western route. We also know, due to using colour rings, that (Longevity and survival of the black stork Ciconia nigra based on ring recoveries. Enikő Anna Tamás, Biologia, Volume 66, Number 5 (2011), 912-915) out of 100 young black storks 83 will die before finishing their first year (of course it is an approximation). So after leaving the nest our nestlings have very, very hard time ahead. We must be aware that most of the young will not survive till next summer. Storks find food with their beaks, so any frailty in the functioning of the beak will eliminate the bird in a few weeks. If our Lenny has a broken lower jaw, it seems he has, very little can be done. The nestling will survive, but only in a Zoological Garden or Rehabilitation Center, where food is served “on the table”, like in the nest. I simply would like to say that Lenny probably will not return to the nest.
Best wishes,
Piotr Zielinski

I have no doubt, katsik. I keep my fingers crossed that the storklet could return to the nest as soon as possible.katsik wrote:Hi Lucy, I think Lenny is a good hands. And I hope Urmas will write some news later here.

Thank you for that article Asteria.
All we can do now is wait for news from Urmas.
And many thanks to Urmas for acting so quickly to remove and treat Lenny.
