Re: Lesser Spotted Eagle Webcam Discussion
What a good news!!

Second egg has been laid on 26/4 and hatched on 3/6/ 2009. 38 days..

We will certainly try our best - but it is not always easy to see.Urmas wrote:That is useful also for us to know the prey species - this year we have that opportunity, with help of you!
Actually best moment to see it is when Koit brings it, before he puts it down.
So we have to keep watching

Can anyone say is the new Spotlet nr 2 lesser - or not as much developed - when it hatched today after only 38 days incubating, than the Spotlet number 1 (40 days incubating)?
The Spotlet nr1 is now (at 17:00) 69 hours old and the Spotlet only 3 hours old..and it was incubated 2 days less..
I only wish that the new Spotlet would reach the bigger as soon as possible.. to survive. But.. This is propably just useless speculating.
Can you hear the wheeping of the tiny Spotlet?
(I counted earlier the age-difference wrong, it's 66 hours, not '58'

If the Junior was incubated 2 days less it means that he developed faster and got ready to hatch earlier than the Senior chick.

The chick will hatch when it is ready. I think that Eha was not laying on the first egg very seriously the first days. It will develope slower then, in the beginning. The condition on this new little eaglet will now depend on wheather it is fed or not and how Eha treats it.

If I am not mistaken Eha started to incubate the first egg at once, before she laid the second one and we even thought that it would be only one egg in the nest.

Ok!.. I thought too that Eha did not begin the incubating at once en serious. Let's hope that the lesser will get food enough to reach the number 1 the soonest possible. I think then if the chicks are about as 'strong' Eha will treat them both same way equally and the less Spotlet is able to defend itself if the bigger is too 'jealous'.. heh.. I don't know which words to use... It is a question of of survival.caysa wrote:The chick will hatch when it is ready. I think that Eha was not laying on the first egg very seriously the first days. From the little bit I have read about this species, they do not act the same way that bald eagles or white-tailed eagles (for example) do. Their strategy is to focus on one chick. It may be hard to watch.renandeli wrote: Let's hope that the lesser will get food enough to reach the number 1 the soonest possible. Yes, bo, I remember what Urmas told. I didn't know it earlier. Better to know the realities beforehand..bociany wrote: From the little bit I have read about this species, they do not act the same way that bald eagles or white-tailed eagles (for example) do. All the better....because I 'think' I may have perceived "the evil deed" ? :cryoliv wrote:18.42. Eha is feeding the chick with the back against us...
Edit; I went away. Now Eha left the nest briefly and there is still movement with a white thing( ?eggshell ):
I must have seen another prey dangling from Eha's beak. Thats why I turned away.
