I downloaded 2 articles and will look at them when I have finished grading my class -- they look interesting. I have been more worried about the sex ratios in the black storks but I have as yet been too lazy to look for material.

A fresh start

It would be very interesting to see a Golden Eagle nest.

There is a picture of a nest (at about the middle of the page). To me it looks like a typical Golden Eagle nest -- I think it might be hard to get cams on them. Where I live Bald Eagles are pretty common. Last year I even laughed at myself for shooing at a Bald Eagle flying over my house -- I was thinking of my cats! But for me Golden Eagles are a rare and exciting thing to see.

In Sweden that kind of eagle is called "Lesser scream-eagle". I wonder why

Spot is growing very fast and he is so activ. I hope he is a good entertainer like Sulli and Kluti.

it's the same idea with the Finnish name for the lesser spotted eagle: 'pikkukiljukotka' . i haven't been watching this cam very intensively but do i remember correctly when i think these eagles weren't quite mute?..

i think this black one could be a water vole (Arvicola terrestris, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Water_Vole ). they are the biggest voles: length 155 mm - 345 mm, including the tail which is 50 mm - 130 mm, and they weigh 65 g - 275 g. the vole in the Wikipedia article's picture is rather light-coloured. they are actually nearly black (at least the ones our cat has brought home to eat them on the living room carpet . the vole in the above picture doesn't look very big.)
the ones with light-grayish bellies are probably yellow-necked field mice (Apodemus flavicollis). they also have big Mickey Mouse ears and very long tails, but i think these are not easily seen here in these pictures.

Ame, I too, have seen similar carpet decorations in the past. you are right, they are very dark coloured, almost black.

What is this loud noise??trucks, trains?? at 16.11 and 16.16
i don`t remember hearing that earlier, just during last weeks or so
when this "vehicle" passes - Eha looks clearly disturbed!
