kenny, I like to open the forum and there find your comic! If I was able to do something like that I should do something there Eha seize Spot sen by the scruff of the neck.
I have been looking at cam from nature for the first year and I have notice that birds not puzzle their head of the little one who been pecking on.
I hope you understand what I was wroting

i understand. i would have liked to see more governing from Eha as well, if food was really scarce, i'd understand, why to only deal with one chick. But Koit has been bringing food every 20 min and the nest wreath is covered with dead prey, so there isn't much reason, for Eha to let the older one peck the younger one, but maybe Eha is chinese and following the one-kid-only-quota. nature has programmed in their brain that MAYBE after a while (rain period or something) there won't be enough food and THEN you're stuck with two chicks. And in that case, it would be wise to raise one healthy chick rather than two hungry ones... BUt it's all a big MAYBE from Nature's point-of-view...oliv wrote:kenny, I like to open the forum and there find your comic! Even when there is plentifull food ( 5 or more mice of whatever now, ct
12.36) Eha has no possibility to save Spot 2. She knows no feelings like pity. She acts conform her bird of prey "genes" - programm.
Feed the begging - moving- beak opening- chick(s).
Ignore all the other circumstances.
When an animal is too weak to live it is worthless for the continued existence of the species and gets no more food - that would be an utter waste- or will be killed. When it died maybe it can be useful too as food at least.
For many of us, human beings, it is terrible and heartbreaking to see;
let us be grateful to have the possibility to make our own , very well understandable, decision in this case: not to watch any longer. There will be messages in the foorum when this tragedy has ended and watching this cam can be a joy again.
It might not be necessary to mention that this is only my personal opinion and I hope you can find distraction at the other cams and the
friendly words of Kenny and others who try to comfort us too.

Perhaps you are right! Perhaps Koit sees a rain-period coming and "knows" he won't be able to catch as much prey then. We can use these birds to predict weather. Cancel your vacation plans, Koit see rainy days! <--that was a joke, just clarifying...Jo UK wrote:12.32 Koit arrived again, with yet more food!
It is as though he is stocking up, ready for a siege!

But, Kenny, joke or not - it really did seem to me that he is providing so much food at very frequent intervals, that some reason must be driving him.
What do they know, that we don't know?
Oh, for more understanding.

i don't think Koit plans to leave or stop the hunting for no reason. I think upcoming poor weather for hunting, is why he is stocking groceries.
oor..maybe it's not tht he sees the rainy days coming, maybe just at the moment, in current weather, there are a lot of voles and little animals out and about and he just uses the opportunity to impress his wife.

- i believe last year's stork-cam watchers remember how Padis and Donna feeded storklets more than usual before rainy days.
