I made a slideshow of those minutes, 52 pictures from Eha's leaving, 7-8 first pictures of the 'show' are from the seconds when Spot senior is pecking the lesser chick.

Spot 2 does not move anymore, Nr 1 pecks him and shakes his neck but Spot 2 shows no reaction..hope his suffering is over. It is really sad
to see that...

Has someone made a video about these feeding, it was just before
Eha covered them again..

I think he still moved a little... and Eha tried to make him aware.... She poked a bit on him, like why don't you ask for food....

Nature is really strange.... I wonder what the idea is with this cainism? Seems it cannot be shortage of food??

Hi, found such info:

What cainism really shows is that only a
few chicks out of a clutch are actually needed to help the species go
on, the rest are a form of insurance in case of something happening to
the oldest sibling.

I dont know how Spot Jun. is, I minimized the player window if feeding began...I hope ergee is right, most worst of all is suffering

I don't know, caysa.

Is it the first and urgent expression of the predator/prey instinct?
As you say, it is not about food shortage.

Lili, thanks for finding that. Troutman thinks it is related to food supply - well, there are always many different viewpoints.

Lili, we will tell you when the worst is over, then you can choose when to watch again.

Eha feeded Spot senior from about 14:32: to 14:46:30. Fraps made pictures of the happening, it took pictures
every 5th second, mabe I make a slideshow later. Propably someone made a video :puzzled: .

I think there was not anymore more than one living chick on the nest, Spot senior. Can I say 'Spot was cruel'. No. I can be cruel, morally a monster, but I can make a choise because I have free will. Animals do not have that possibility the same way as we, i just thought..

Yes, Renandeli, you are right - The bigger Spot does what his nature tells him to do, no way he would understand that!

Koit just brought something.... BIG... a mink - no a lesser weasel I think!
The little Spot still raised his head of pure instinct when food arrived

Good question caysa!
i 'asked' that from Google; found this:

/.../ The existence of Cainism could be explained by the LSEĀ“s being today at an intermediate stage in its evolution, of transition from two-egg to one-egg clutches./.../
it's here:

It would be interesting to know what Kotkaklubi's men have to say about that.

I got a video of the eating bit at 15.30
Spot Jun. has been tackled down- Senior is asking for couple of bits of this mink or a weasel...

Lesser Spotted Eagles cam09 - 6 June - 15.30 Eha is eating, Spot Sen. has tackled down Spot Jun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0nxoVyz-CE

PS, my video stream keeps stopping, is it because of the server overload, a lot of people want to see LSE :) or is it my connection only...?

Good link Yarko!! Thanks!
Explains a lot.... Sad tho, that we are the ones to witness this transition time. Of course it does not happen over night, evolution takes time.

:peek:
17.03 Spot Jun. is well and moving, he just pecked his big brother for tackling him  Come on little one fight!!!, Eha just started feeding. SpotJun defy nature and show your brother there is an exception to the rule of only ONE lesser Spot survival!!!
17.11 -_- Spotjun.???? mhh no, Spot Sen. is playing the-Survival-of-the-First-Spotted-Eaglet-ONLY card and has decided to be the last Man standing!! he is laying, with all his weight, on Spot Jun. and the little one doesn't get any food. or maybe get one little bite... decide from the video:

I'll post the videos as soon as their done processing....

Sometimes life itself can be seen as horrible.. This is almost too much..for me. I have only human words.. I understand why scientists use a bit different language..
