Estonian LSE nest (BS)

August 2

The day started with a very strong wind, the nest moved from left to right. Remo was the one who took care of Tormi today and delivered many voles.

Image

Funny play of the light: a very cross eyed Tormi.

Image

Tormi threw out her cone by accident last night and it looks like she is searching the bottom beneath the nest.

Image

The wind became a little less strong in the afternoon. Right now Tormi is alone, jumping and wing flapping "all the time" and waiting for Tuuli to come for the night, then all will be well.

Estonian LSE nest (BS)

August 3

A nice, dry day at the nest, where it is all about Tormi.
When does she jump at 1 of the branches???

Remo brought several voles and something unidentifiable:

Image

Remo always waits untill he is sure Tormi has grabbed the prey.

Image

And when that is a frog Tormi does not stop making the same sound as Tuuli makes when she recieves a frog.

The branches were inviting today also. Tormi dares placing her feet on it but is not going any farther yet:

Image

Image

When looking at the next picture it is almost shocking how adult Tormi looks:

Image

Right now Tormi lies, completely content (if it is possible to know something like that  ) and is just awaiting the arrival of Tuuli for the night, and then all will be well.

Estonian LSE nest (BS)

August 4

A day with excitement if Tormi is going to jump the branches, again, like yesterday.

Tuuli is even inviting her by going to the branch at the left side of the nest

Image

The nest is filled with down feathers and every time one of the parents arrives, there is a cloud of feathers at their feet.

When Tormi lies with her wings like this it is so nice to see all those layers of feathers and their different colours:

Image

Tuuli came to the nest early in the afternoon and she removed some old down feathers of Tormi. Who pecks at Mom when she comes too close too fast.

Image

It was a dry day with hardly any wind. Remo and Tuuli brought 8 prey in total to the nest today, among which was a very large vole!
Right now Tormi is sitting at the edge of the nest grooming herself, shaking all her feathers and we can see all the down feathers float away. She is waiting for Tuuli and then all will be well again.

Tormi made the jump!!
Early this morning at just after 6 o'clock.

When Remo came to the nest with a frog Tormi was back in the nest in a second. That was why we knew she was at the nest tree.

All day she jumped into the tree and came back after a while, very noisy, as if excited.

Image

Image

During afternoon hours Tormi was lying in the nest, undergoing the warmth.

Image

There is not so much to tell. Remo also brought a very chubby vole, Tuuli brought food also and now Tormi is alone since several hours.
The parents will come to the nest again because it is still early. The weather is beautiful, not too much wind and sunshine now and again, and all is well.

Estonian LSE nest (BS)

Evening of august 5, the day Tormi was 56 days old and jumped at the branches of the tree for the first time.
All day she was in and out of the nest; tried several branches of the tree, but in the evening came back to the nest to stay for the night, as usual very close to Tuuli. Even trying to get her head under Tuuli's breast.

Image

Suddenly Remo arrived with a prey, allthough almost dark. After swallowing it, Tormi settled down for the night again, with a lot of happy "chirping/purring". After a while it became quiet........

Estonian LSE nest (BS)

August 6

A nice, dry day, with a very strong wind in the afternoon.

Tormi uses the nest to do her midday nap, to eat and be groomed and cuddled.

Image

All the food is been brought to the nest by Remo and Tuuli and then Tormi jumps from the branch, untill now it is the same branch all the time at the left side of the nest, into the nest. It is day 57 of Tormi's life and her/his voice is changing. More hoarse when calling.

Image

One other thing the nest is still good for are exercises, with high jumps. Great to see.

Image

Right now Tormi is at "her" branch, grooming herself. She has had lots of food, even left 1 vole in the nest, and is now awaiting the arrival of Tuuli or Remo with food or for the night. All is well.

Estonian LSE nest (BS)

August 7

All day long, Tormi jumped the branches on all sides of the nest. Remo and Tuuli came to the nest with prey, and then she came back from were she was. We saw several voles, a frog, and a longish light grey rodent.

After that last prey Tormi jumped with flapping wings rather wildly and disappeared to the left side with a lot of rustling. We heard LSE calling, but don't know who it was.

Untill now she is not back again but if something changes during the evening I will post that.

Tormi DID come to the nest last night! It was pitch dark already but several viewers witnessed it.

This morning very early everything was soaking wet, including Tormi

Image

Image

In spite of all the wetness Tuuli arrived rather early and brought Tormi food:

Image

after which she started hopping the branches

Image

Image

Tormi did her midday nap in the nest, nicely dried up. Today it was mostly Tuuli's task to bring in the food for Tormi. Remo also came in the afternoon with a vole.

Tormi is enjoying the branch jumping and the wing flapping. Calling loud when up in the tree and arriving with a big thud in the nest again. Sometimes doing the same "round" several times in a row. As long as Tormi comes to sleep in the nest at night we can still enjoy watching her.

Right now Tormi is standing in the nest, looking up at the branches and all is well.

Estonian LSE nest (BS)

August 9

Tormi has flown out of the nest. Probably is somewhere on the ground or in a tree. It is guessing anyway.

The day started rather wet and windy, but food was brought in abundance. Frogs and voles. Both by Tuuli and Remo. Tormi jumped the branches all day and at 18.46 (6.46 pm) Grieta saw her fly away in the direction which the parents always fly.

And she took the following pictures:

Both parents visited the nest with food after Tormi left and reacted rather panicky. There is still calling in the distance now and we also hear Tormi answering.

One of the few pictures of today of a rather sturdy build and fierce looking Tormi.

Image

I think this will be the last summary. Seeing the whole circle from beginning until now was a wonderful experience and I wish Tormi and family a magnificient life, then....all will be well!
