The link to the Looduskalender article article about the Black Stork nest has been added to the first post on page 1.
Now that we are on page 5 it is worth mentioning it here, too.

Good Morning! As you are nearing dinner time!

Empty nest for me this morning.

Wonderful video Felis, thank you!

That sound Padis makes, anyone know what it means? Calling a mate? Claiming his territory? Whistling as he works?

hello!
has the nest been empty all day? it's been so every time i have looked...

Baibre: i think Padis is calling for all the reasons you listed!
i guess that straight-laced biologists would not accept the third reason but i think why not: repairing the nest and calling for a spouse must be satisfying work for him. :whistling:

:innocent: Thanks ame I was afraid my sense of humour would offend!!!

I have not seen Padis today. The last time I saw him was 11 pm my time last night which would have been 6 am here.

Good evening!
not sure it is so good...
asteria, i agree with you! but it looks like we will not see any storklets in this nest this year - again:(
but the bright side is, that at least Padis has made the long and hard trip home...and he looks healthy and OK.
One beautiful day he will find himself a nice lady stork
Of course i may be wrong and this nest will remain "The Black stork nest" ! (how i wish to be wrong now!)

Yes he was here all night, but yesterday he was behaving so differently....no nest cleaning and only once he brought a bit of moss.
Last year he made a perfect nest, full of moss and all these new branches and twigs.
This year - nothing like that.

It is not even about storklets, it is about the nest owner. This nest belongs to Padis, no matter whether he finds a female or stays alone. The LSE couple may build another nest of their own.

Maybe Padis decided not to work in the nest until he finds a female.

the nest is empty when the night is coming....

i don't think that it is too late yet for a stork family this year... the LSEs may compete over the nest but i don't think Padis will give up easily. it'll be exiting to see who is stronger. i hope that someone will nest here this year so that it will not be like at the WTEs' nest where no-one dares to come after the eagles. :faint:

I had the impression that, if the LSEs want the nest, they will win any battle that may happen. They are so feirce.

Is there an eagle expert who can give an opinion, please?

:slap: I wonder if this is one of the LSEs who were playing house here last season? They did take care to decorate the nest extensively before they left for the winter! I hope Padis comes back, maybe he is on a fishing trip, or went to town to find a girlfriend. Could he have another nest nearby?
