Yes, even if some of that noise is not Stephi breathing we can see his body move and shake with each breath more than it should -- I thinkFleur wrote: He breathes a bit difficult, I believe

Everyone
Maybe it's just a temporary stress-induced bronchoconstriction? But it persists too long, I think.

Perhaps Stephi got cold the day she was standing in the rain without protection for five hours?
When mam came back she was also wet all over when Stephi creeped under the mam's chelter.
She eats and stands anyway pritty good, dosen't she. There is hope anyway!

Here is Urmas' considered reply to this situation about Stephi -
Asked opinion from Madis and Joosep (not got, yet), but its a bit difficult to decide further plans - taking off the chick is last I want to do, because:
- not sure if we can help really in that way;
- we are the watchers, not nursery for these nests inhabitants we watch;
- disturbing is one thing we want to avoid at nesting time (additionally to ringing disturbance);
- if we intervent, we can't see what might happen naturally, but that is why we installed the cameras...
for sure some chicks in nests will not survive up to fledging. We have found sometimes dead ones in nests, but usually no reason of death will found. So for longer conservative perspective I would like to be observer, not intruder (with humanised approach, what is developed only during last couple of centuries, but evolution has formed these eagles during millions of years for better adopted to the environment they live - very last time together with humans).
Don't know if that is easy to understand if one will see (maybe?) dying eaglet?
The question has arised also before, but not really something bad happened, fortunately...

Right now the sound is definitely in sync with what I can see of Stephi's breathing.
(It would have been nice if one vole, with antibiotic at the ringing, would have helped but we do not even know an antibiotic would help -- and what if Tuuli had eaten it?)
Joosep seemed to touch Stephi very carefully it will be interesting what he says -- although all eagles he sees are mostly under stress for sure.
I am just going to keep hoping that Stephi gets better. Stephi is eating and moving about, preening and sleeping and that is all hopeful.
good day everyone

Yeah, all is true. But I am definitely not ready to see it. I still hope Stephi will survive this situation. She is a fighter.Jo UK wrote:Here is Urmas' considered reply to this situation about Stephi -

It is sad to look at this sick chick, but I fully understand and agree with Urmas' opinion.
Like katsik, I also believe that Stefi will recover.

I do understand Urmas. If there´s nothing what can be done, there´s no point to take Stephi out from the nest. And she might get better naturally. I wish this is some kind of a flu or asthma reaction which was caused by the stress after ringing and it will go away.
I think there is still hope. She´s standing, she has eaten... And I´m glad Tuuli is there now with her. I´m also anxious to hear vet´s opinion too. Maybe Dr. Madis will write later.

Did anyone see any sign of the truck that was making all the noise?
I suspected it might be visible up near the top where we have seen vans before but I saw nothing.
Now really
be good everyone
get healthy little Stephi

The name for the sound of that kind of breathing is "stridor". See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stridor
As we have observed this condition in earlier years, maybe we can be reassured that it is a temporary condition which will resolve in a short time.
Foriegn body? Inflammation?

the strange breathing sound only comes with EXhaling.
Steph, wish you all the best!!!!!!! Maybe you can feel our huggs, that warm your soul ;)
PS: so, Exhaling sounds come from lung problems like pneumonia (inhaling sounds would show that there is something in your lung - bucks....)

Thanks for understanding my message about Stephi!
But I'm nor sure if that breathing problem is somehow caused by ringing event, it was possible to hear also before ringing (and some observers paid attention).
Let's wait for Dr. Madis opinion.

I'm totally agree with Urmas opinion.
Although sometimes it's hard to see how "wildlife/nature" is.
I hope the best for little Phi and crossing my fingers...

Stephi is sleeping, Tuuli in the nest.
To give Stephi pills there is no need to take the eaglet away. Why not save him?
