Re: Estonian LSE Nest Discussion 2012 ~ Tuuli & Remo
13.29 Remo brought lunch. then i had to turn off the PC to save the battery because we had lost electricity...
the food looked like a big vole this time: it had light grey stomach.
after Remo left Stephi began to cut the prey almost like a professional: she ripped off a few pieces just like that.
that seemed to take too long, however, and therefore she decided to swallow the rest in one go, again just like that!!
we are getting thunder here at home so i'll think it's best to turn off again...

camera is off... has been so at least about an hour.
kln: i should think that swallowing as big prey as possibly fits down the throat is normal and it should not produce any trouble as soon it is down. i think that the crop is so elastic that it could house even two whole voles if the chick is greedy enough.
it's peculiar though how the wheezing-breathing began as soon as the rain started... i heard two or three wheezes in the whole day before that.

I was recorded from 14.30 till cam was down.
At 16.22 h it was a "food delivery". (On video at minute 5:35)
Here is the "full size video"
On the short video saw it was a "twig delivery", the mole/vole laying in nest before .

Shame on me .
In my "full-size"-video above, it was not a food delivery on 5:35min, it was a twig
It's not good to do to many things together at the same time.
But a mole was laying in nest before.

Surely everything is okay. The last picture before the cam freeze was Stephi standing in the background and calling.
No worries, there is only a technical problem.
