now they are settling down to sleep. Stephi is still just making little chirps under Tuuli's breast but Tuuli seems to be tired.

19h59 in France. Stephi alone. Always bad weather, I heard wind or rain? Stephi needs sunshine.

:hi: Im in the U.S. and I have a question,I have learned alot about Bald Eagles and Sea eagles but know nothing about these-do these eagles branch first and then fledge,or do they just simply one day fly? Thankyou :puzzled:  :dunno:

The year before last we thought Spot (Eha and Koit's eaglet) had flown away, but when they widened the view of the camera, it turned out she was spending a lot of time on a branch near the nest.

Then she disappeared from view and then she was found on the ground, she had hurt her shoulder (probably) flying into a tree. So I think hopefully they spend some time mastering their flying before they zoom about.

Because these eagles migrate to Africa, they have less attachment to the nest site than the eagles who stay in one area, so I think they leave more quickly. I think the female, Tuuli will migrate first and Remo will spend some time teaching Stephi hunting skills before they migrate. But Stephi will be on her own quickly.

Felis did some checking and found an interesting article last year -- these eagles do some "easy" hunting in Africa -- baby birds who live in large colonies -- which probably gives some of the young LSEs a chance to survive as they continue to develop skills. Of course it is not too good for those baby birds.

Her finds lead to the creation of a whole database of information on LSEs -- this is the section with English articles viewtopic.php?f=53&t=354

Here, Oregon, I see young Bald Eagles well into the winter who still seem to be getting some help from a parent.
