Re: Estonian LSE Nest Discussion 2012 ~ Eha & Koit
I take it that Kalev is nearby?
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Is Eha waiting for Kalev... ? I´m afraid Kalev´s gone now. I hope he is safe and sound! I miss him already... All the best for Kalev!

Ohhhhh, I hope he is not gone for good. He hasn't even learned to hunt, yet!

The youngest gone first?
Good luck to you, "little" Kalev, have a good life and always wind under your wings!
Chimega: that's now Koit's job! The female leave for migration before the young ones and the male. The male stay and teach the young ones to hunt! Last year one of Estonia's nature photographers posted some photos of LSE he saw outside Tali. It was a group of adult and young LSE, if I remember it right.

Me too, and it is always interesting to see which of our sayings are German or, English or... because we also say quick as a weasel.Felis silvestris wrote:These eagles really amaze me! I can imagine it is not so easy to catch a weasel - we say in German also quick as a weasel!
I did not know weasels "play possum" or "play dead" because I have really only seen one or two in my life.

OK, thank you. For owls, both parents teach the young to hunt and the young still go back to the nest or box every night for quite a while after they first learn to fly. It's confusing as they are two different types of raptor.Felis silvestris wrote:The youngest gone first?

I still don't like it, though. But I am happy if Kalev fledges and has a good life.

Why would Eha just sit there in the nest like she is waiting if Kalev isn't coming back?

Good morning
Eha in the nest and no Kalev here - can only mean one: he´s gone
When it started to rain yesterday night I had the hope that he would stay another day for better weather, but so he was too curious to explore the world ...
Fly high, fly far - always good hunting grounds and a full tummy for you, little big Kalev
She looks a bit lonely ...

Oh dear, it´s so hard to see these nests without the chicks... But I´m glad Kalev grew up so well. Can´t help thinking about all the dangers out there... But maybe he´s with Koit in the hunting fields now.

It looks like she is still thinking should she eat it herself or wait a little longer for Kalev...

Yes, she is beautyful - and she always makes me smile because of her hairdo, looks always a bit uncombedStarling wrote: Oh yes, Eha is so beautiful. I hope they come back next year too!
