Lots of news on the blog for this cam: http://blogs.scottishwildlifetrust.org. ... life-diary

It seems the male has returned, and a new female.
Our resident male doesn’t seem to know what to do with the new female. He’s made several mating attempts but only one appeared successful but in between times he appears to be ignoring her or landing on the nest and mantling (holding his wings out) showing he’s not happy.
We saw that behavior with the Estonian osprey male Madis last spring (2012), and we had not yet learned what it meant!

This may be a daughter of Lady,beloved osprey,who hasn't turned up yet.
Giving her advanced years she may have retired to the sunshine. Only time will tell.
This osprey was named Nighean (doughter in Gaelic) today. She sure know what she wants and gets it despite Newman (male osprey from last season. :whistling:

Both ospreys Newman (!) and Lady are feeding well now that the ice on the Loch (lake) has melted.
Lady seems in very good form after her trip 'home'. At first she rested a lot and shouted at lot at Newman to bring fish.
Today they both were busy mating and building up the nest.
Bets are on for the 1st egg...10-13 April :puzzled: or much later ?.... :peek:

Lady's 2nd egg on 21st April.

Lady's 3rd egg laid 24th April.

extract from a blog SWT;

Everything s going well in this nest despite some strong windy weather. Lady is such an experienced osprey & she has trained her lates mate Newman very well. He is feeding her regulary & generally being a good mate.
Our female has had a couple of fish and a whole 2hours away from the nest this evening, while our male took his turn on the nest. The male seems only to keen to take over incubation duties when he gets the chance- what a model father figure he is. You will notice that when he is incubating, he is a real fidget- constantly moving around and fiddling with things in the nest, and even putting moss on his own back- we thinks it’s just a way to channel energy.
Seems its not a problem...fidgetting. :mrgreen:

4the egg laid today at Lowes;
from SWT tweet;
Great news!! Staff at Loch of the Lowes are very pleased to confirm that there are now 4 eggs in the nest. Shortly after 11.00 this morning we were able to say for sure & both visitors & staff cheered as the pair changed over incubating & the 4 eggs were clearly visible on screen in the hide
:slap: A lot of eggs for an old Lady osprey. !

"There was an old woman who lived in a boot
She had so many children she didn't know what to do
She gave them some broth without any bread
Whipped them all soundly and sent them to bed"

Young Rory Mc Donald sings for osprey charity;

http://vimeo.com/65824684#
We were there for the launch of Fly Lady, Fly a song written by Scottish singer and broadcaster Fiona Kennedy and Nils Elders. The song was inspired by the Loch of the Lowes record-breaking Osprey, Lady. Now 27 years-old, she’s thought to be the oldest breeding Ospreys in the UK. The song – a great mix of pop and tribal Celtic chants – is performed by hugely-talented 13 year-old Ruairidh McDonald and celebrates Lady’s annual migration from Perthshire to West Africa and back again. It is remarkable to think that in her lifetime Lady has now migrated more than 150,000 miles – the equivalent of six times round the world!
The team from Rutland were there
Thanks to Fiona’s generosity a donation from sales of the single will be made to the Rutland Osprey Project as well as to the Scottish Wildlife Trust. You can download the song from iTunes and here’s a sneak preview. It’s a great song and if you buy it, you know that you will be helping to safeguard the future of these incredible birds!
