:puzzled: There might be a problem with egg-fertility. The people at Lowes are getting a bit worried that none will hatch.
Close to maxi hatching time time for egg No's 2 & 3. :slap:

:loveshower: Great news from Lowes;
After such a long and anxious wait , we finally have an osprey chick safely hatched at Loch of the lowes.

About 8.45am our wildlife Interpretation officer Val Gall and volunteer Rebbecca spotted the first signs in one of the eggs. This tiny hole and subsequent crack progressed remarkable quickly to a full hatching. The top came off the egg, and by about 10am the chick was free of the egg shell.
Isn't that a surprise ? Everyone had given up hope of a hatch,supposing Lady's eggs were infertile. :whistling:

Osprey Ringing and Tagging as it Happened July 15th
Posted on July 15, 2013 by rangeremma

...Roy Dennis and Keith quickly assess the chick, finding it a healthy and very generously proportioned female, who is obviously well fed and has a very full crop (that’ll be that lunchtime pike!). Her measurements are: Wing length 375cm, tail 170cm, weight (including pike lunch) 1800 grams...

The chick is given a metal ring which should last its lifetime with the serial number 1439121, and a contact to report the bird to if it is ever found dead or injured. It is also given a blue and white Darvic plastic ring (very lightweight) which has the code YZ on it.

The chick, now know as Blue YZ , has been very active today, with lots of wing flapping practice and even some tiny hovers on the nest- she suddenly seems like a much older chick. She has done some preening today around her tag straps but otherwise seems to be adapting to the satellite transmitter perfectly.

Some readers pointed out my mistake in yesterday’s blog, in which I put cm instead of mm when describing our chick’s measurements. To clarify, she measured 375mm from shoulder joint to wing tip, and her tail measured 1750mm and her weight was 1800gms...

Every day I look at Lady Marge and her daughter Blue YZ.

Marge, she is so fantastic sometimes I think like a highness. When I think of her age she is like a queen.

And with her daughter, she is so adorable and very attentive.

I love watching this nest :loveshower:

Blayze Fledged at about 10:30 BST and by nightfall had still not returned to the nest.
Lady was later seen carrying a fish across the Loch,presumably for the youngster. :thumbs:
