July 15th

Ringing day at the Dyfi.

The ringing can start any time now, and the osplets are still blissfully unaware that they soon will get initiated and get some bling-bling in this rite of passage:

7:30 UK time - camera went off, ringing begins. Updates via live chat. A video will be made and uploaded as soon as the osplets are back on the nest again.

Ringing is over, the livestream is on again, and according the live reports on the chat all went smooth, apart from that the oldest Bob pecked at the ringer :laugh:

Picture seconds after the livestream came on. Both Bobs in thanatosis:

But not for long, feisty younger Bob got up for a poopshot:

Monty is back on his perch near the nest too, and both Bobs are looking around now:

Well,I didn't say boy or girl with ring No's.
But you are perfectly correct.
2014 Dyfi Osprey Chick Names
Both chicks have been ringed and as guessed by many of you, the oldest chick (3R) is a boy and his sister is, well, a girl (5R)!
Thank you for the correct order. In any case they now have beautiful names.

Gwynant (Bob1) and Deri (Bob2) are doing fine. Here today's facebook update from the Dyfi Osprey Project:
Bore da

Here is a close up of Deri from the ringing yesterday. She is five weeks old today and has some of the darkest head feathers we have seen for a young osprey.

3R = Gwynant = Male = 1,520g

5R = Deri = Female = 1,600g

Look out for a blog by the end of the week with more information from the ringing day yesterday, including a four minute video shot in Ultra High Definition 4K resolution - a world first for ospreys?!

All four birds doing well this morning, another photo from yesterday later including the osprey weight competition winner

More news from the Dyfi this afternoon.

While Monty was away fishing, an unknown male osprey was intruding, and although males are usually chasing off males (and females chasing off females), Glesni decided to take the case in her own talons, literally (pictures made by Emyr Evans of the DOP):

:sleep: in the night little osprey beauties. Deli is asleep and so was Gwynant. Suddenly he woke up, looked around and began to exercise his mighty wings with strong movements. Thanks to the cams infrared light one can follow the chicks through the dark hours of the night. :loveshower: Marvellous. Thank you all that made it possible. :bow: Now it is time for :offtobed:

START THE CARRRRRRR

Gwynant has fledged at 10:33

He's on top of the camera pole (right) at the moment with Mum & Dad wondering what all the fuss is about.
