There was a visitor on the Dyfi nest late yesterday evening:

Deri has not been seen since 10:33 UK time this morning... Has she gone or is she just exploring a bit? Tomorrow we will know more.

Meanwhile Monty is showing the classical signs of socalled displacement behaviour (= when an animal has two or more conflicting instincts and then does something unrelated). The urge to migrate becomes stronger for every hour, and at the same time he still has to take care of his daughter Deri. This resulted in Monty's case in some nestorations and even digging out the nest bowl tonight, an activity which is normal for the start of the breeding season, not at the end:

No signs of Deri so far this morning. Has she started her migration?

Monty didn't show up either until 8:30 UK time, but then he landed on his perch with a fresh fish, looking around:

And when I posted the above pictures, the Dyfi facebook came with an update:
Bore da

We last saw Deri at 10:33 on the larch perch yesterday morning. She lifted off, gained height, and flew south-west down the estuary.

Monty stayed around the nest all day looking for her. He's on his perch again now with a mullet in his talons. He's still looking.

The Dyfi has suddenly become very quiet this morning.

Monty is still with us, and while he was plagued by some annoying magpies, a bizarre visitor landed on the nest:

Monty is still on the Dyfi. He was doing some nestorations this morning before flying to his favourite perch:

Today's DOP facebook update:
Bore da

Monty has seen a lot of ospreys this year. Dai Dot, Blue 24, Glesni, Gwynant, Deri and countless others passing through.

This morning he is alone. Just himself and his thoughts on the larch perch, looking south..

It seems that the inevitable just happened at the Dyfi: Monty most likely left on migration.

From the Dyfi LiveChat:
11:18 - Janine_MWT : Hi folks, when Monty left the post he circled up to a great height and then headed south. We've been wrong before but it looked like he was going.

11:19 - Janine_MWT : We all ran out and watching him go, with a little wave and a tear.

Here some pictures of Monty:

DOP facebook update:
We think Monty has gone.

At 10:50 he flew off his larch perch and immediately started to circle and gain height. We watched him for another 18 minutes until he was a tiny spec, high in the blue sky - he must have been half a mile up.

He then circled one last time before breaking off and heading south. We lost sight of him high over the Ceredigion hills at 11:08.

See you next year mate.

No osprey news from the Dyfi (as none of this year's ospreys is tracked), but today this neat female kestrel visited the nest for quite some time:
