Boxing Bob
We received a large number of emails late on Thursday night - everyone was worried about Big Bob.
Bob ended up in a fight with his/her dinner and took a smack in the chops. Bob was floored and failed to get up after a standing eight count.
Bob 1 eventually came 'round however and quickly tucked in to his assailant.

Dyfi Osprey Project
il y a 4 heures
Here's Big Bob and some useful information.
Bob is 16 days old today and the adult feathers are really coming through now. The egg tooth is disappearing, but will still be visible for another couple of weeks.
Bob's eyes have reached that deep amber colour which is normal for osprey chicks - they turn yellow by the age of one to two years (unless you're Monty!).
Bob is becoming more independent as time passes and can thermoregulate much better with each passing day.
We will ring Bob 1 and Bob 2 at the age of five to six weeks. No decision has been taken on tracking yet. We'll have a pretty good idea what sex each chick is when we ring them and we can then give them names. We'll follow the same protocol as previous years in naming both Bobs after rivers
Bore da
Both Bobs are now in the very quick growth spurt stage. They will triple their weight in the next two weeks or so.
Here is Big Bob showing his/her primary feathers developing - these are called blood feathers or pin feathers at this stage.
Big Bob is 18 days old today - he'll be flying in just over four weeks!!

Both chicks are moving around the nest freely now, getting more independent every day. Big Bob is three weeks old today.
We will not satellite track the chicks this year but they will be ringed in a couple of weeks time. By then we should have a pretty good idea of their gender and they will be named after Welsh rivers.
Pronounceable ones

Bit of a Sunday lunch fisticuffs going on!

You know the male intruder that has been around?
Well, here he is. A big thank you to photographer Barry Lowe who has sent us these three photographs (combined into one) he took on Saturday.
Certainly no satellite tracker and we don't think any rings either. What do you think?

Monty has caught his 200th fish of the season this week - he is again this year proving to be a master fisherman and provider to his family.
The chicks are nearing the end of their huge growth spike this week, we will now see a slightly reduced consumption level, but a lot of feather growth.

Big Bob isn't so small anymore!
I believe I can fly..

Both chicks will be ringed tomorrow with these ring numbers.

Clue: Females tend to weigh a bit more than males. Last year's girls weighed 1,660g (Cerist) and 1710g (Clarach). But do we have one boy this year?
Good luck
