More about Little (now big) Nel's release, including a neat video of the event, from the OWL facebook:
Nel is Wild and Free!

Today Nel was released back to the wild in Nelson B.C. The release was absolutely beautiful, and moreover; successful! Not only will Nel have a steady supply of Kokanee fish, she was already joined by two other Osprey in the area. We hope you enjoy this little video, and again, thank you for all you support!

Sincerely,
The O.W.L Gang

Nel the Osprey is released back to Nelson B.C
This is a little video put together today of Nel the Osprey. Today, she was released back to the wild, and with great success. Thank you to everyone involved...

Godspeed Nel! Fly high, strengthen your wings, learn your home range, stay safe, and bon voyage when you migrate. May you never lack fish and return to breed for many years to come, as that is your natural role.

The newspaper article on Nel's release in the wild has been updated with a good deal of extra information about the release, her osprey foster mum, another osprey from the Nelson area recently brought to the O.W.L. rehab centre, etc:

Oh, and Nel's gender has finally been determined. Nel is a female after all.

I discovered a new osprey cam in Florida, the Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina Osprey Nest camera, located in the Ft Myers area of South-West Florida:

Camera link: http://pinkshellosprey.click2stream.com/

This could be a nice alternative for the winter months, because some ospreys in southern parts of Florida don't migrate but stay all year round. This year their chicks hatched at March 1st and 2nd, and that could indicate that the pair of ospreys on this nest are part of the non-migratory population there.
The camera has night vision too.

The female is called Lucy, and the male listens to the name Ricky.

Right now Lucy is perched on the nesting platform:

More info I found on this nest:

Timeline:

October 2013- the ospreys return to the new nest, adding branches
January 2014- osprey nest complete
January 22, 2014- first egg in nest
January 25, 2014- egg #2 and #3 in nest
February 28, 2014- osprey couple is named Ricky and Lucy
March 1, 2014- egg #1 hatched
March 2, 2014- egg #2 hatched

:hi:

03/19/15 Pink Shell/Florida

All is well in the Pink Shell Nest in Florida. The chicks are growing very well.
It is only one day between hatching this both but good to see on the fether growing, that a day is a long time.

15:04 They are alone for a while. Chick#1 the oldest is right and chick#2 the youngest is left. I`m always looking for better markers. The ID is for the moment only, that chick#1 have a wide stripe from the neck to the tail as chick#2 and the fether growing.
