A question in botanic :innocent:

On the eagle's nest in Norway, they were zooming the cam to check under the nest tree.

I saw thin branches with small red (strong red) flowers.

I was very surprised to see beautiful flowers at that time of the year.
If you have this kind in Finland too, what's iit's name?

are there pictures of these flowers anywhere available? i could try to guess what they might be.

Yes ! on the last video on the page, at 02:50 - 03:05 minutes, you can see the little flowers.

Didn't know there's a forum for this nest.
we have suspected this: we have too many threads in this forum. they are hard to find.

about the flowers:
i don't believe that they are flowers at this time of the year. there seem to be no leaves in the trees/bushes either. but the red things can be berries. if this nest were in Finland i'd say that they must be rowan berries. that's very probable in Norway, too.
there are a lot of Sorbus species and subspecies according to Wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorbus
the berries are first orange when they start to ripen. later in the autumn they turn rather dark red.
this picture is from Luontoportti

(i had to insert only the link. the picture itself was too large for this page.)

the rowan flowers in the beginning of summer. the flowers are white and have a strong sweet (and heavy) smell.

Thanks Ame and others,

Yes! might be the berries; I asked the question because although I've never been to this region of Europe, I was surprised to see something so colorful in this season in a forest.

I tried to find some pictures of its life cycle during the year; didn't find. Now that I know more - I'll try again.

In germany the European rowan is named Eberesche or Vogelbeere. Vogelbeere = Bird Berry. Birds llike these berries very much.
I love the heady aroma, if the trees blooming

For all scientists
In the Prose Edda, the Norse god Thor saves himself from a rapid river created by the giantess Gjálp by grabbing hold of a rowan, which became known as "Thor's protection".

In English folklore, twigs of S. aucuparia were believed to ward off evil spirits and witches. The plant was called "the witch" in England and dowsing rods to find ores were made out of its wood. Twigs of S. aucuparia were used to drive cattle to the pasture for the first time in spring to ensure their health and fertility. The wooden shafts of forks and other farm implements were constructed from S. aucuparia, to protect farm animals and production from witches' spells. In weather lore, a year with plentiful rowan fruit would have a good grain harvest but be followed by a severe winter.

 "This is what you do when your young adult won't leave the nest."
https://en.zooom.no/eagles-nest/1953464 ... ut-of-nest (by Marte Pritzlaff)
"It's almost been four months since the eaglet left the nest for the first time in mid-July and since then he's been visiting his parents' home a lot!
This time it looked like the eagle mom, Baroness Barefoot, had had enough of unannounced visits and threw her own son out of the nest. He fell a few meters down and landed in the branches below the nest. After a short while he flew away by himself, so he didn't get harmed by the fall. "

November 12

Good Morning !

Solo :hi:

This eagle was different than others who were an only kid.
I asked about it few weeks ago and compared the dates to Durberts or an American eagle; I even asked if it depends on kid's gender.

This one wasn't very aggressive against parents when he was about 8-11 weeks old, he didn't chase them of the nest and didn't attack them while bringing food. He was a very nice and polite baby.
Perhaps the separation time depends on the basic character of an eagle, like human.

Yesterday Mom did 2 big changes:
In the morning she let him leave the branch while she stayed on the nest for very long time after his departure.
She didn't come to sleep on nest.

Let's see if he understood the new rules
