The camera was switched on.

The female is 9 years now. It was ringed as a not yet ready-to-fly young on 11 May 2015 in a nest at a secret location in Scania/Skåne, Sweden. The number on the ring is N 3888.

The male of the pair does not appear to be ringed.

2 nests in the picture. From above the old nest - the new nest is to be seen in the distance.

i made some quick statistics of the deliveries that the eagles have made to the nest. they started on Jan 31st when the Male H492 brought the first stick.
after that in about a month they have made the following deliveries.

this makes a total of 350 deliveries by H492 and 59 deliveries by Milda, i.e. the ratio is about 6 to 1 in the Male's favour. - some sticks have naturally also dropped during the month, but they are much more difficult to count.
edit: it seems that Flora in DDF has arrived into similar numbers. her count starts from Feb 19th (which was the first real working day):

i have divided the material into different categories. they are explained below. the numbers are given approximately in centimetres but actually the sizes are compared to the sizes of eagles: i have used them as my measuring stick.
a long stick may be size M or L, depending on the thickness. likewise a short stick may be size S or M depending on the length. medium-length sticks may belong to any size category depending on the thickness.
GT is glue twig and H is hay.

there maybe inaccuracies in the numbers of deliveries and their categorization is of course not absolutely accurate either. if i counted the deliveries again the result would certainly not be exactly the same. especially the numbers in the S-category are not certain. some on the S-sticks have been almost microscopic and/or visible only in few frames. S-sticks are, however, so small in any case that their contribution in the construction of the nest is almost negligible, except in the sense that the small pieces of material act like glue between bigger stick: they increase friction between the sticks.

sticks in categories M and L contribute to the main structure and body of the nest. green twigs also have in general the same function as small sticks and hay: they work as glue in the structure of the nest. H492 has specialized in bringing pine twigs. H942 has brought them in considerable quantities and also big in size. the other eagles have only seldom brought pine twigs.

a large number of the pine twigs delivered by H492 have been so big that they actually contribute greatly to the constitution of the nest. i think i'll have to re-categorize the green twigs later, taking this into account.

There might have been lots of activity and work at the nest just now - if eggs are on their way.
We will see.

so i tried another approach. this time i managed to make a new topic with the posts of 2014 on the top. i can't, however, change the topic name in the first posts on this page. that's either not possible at all or i simply can't find out how it's done. it should become right on the next page.
